How to wear sequins without going over the top
Sequins are often decoration associated with older ladies or with tacky cabaret outfits. However, they’ve made a come back and now can add class and style to any outfit. For ages I’ve wanted a sequin covered dress; however I’ve questioned whether this is going too far with my love for sequins. Also sequins can be quite painful if they’re rubbed against your skin so I was unsure whether I wanted to clear the dance floor because my dress injured people.

So I chose some more subtle ways to get sequins into my outfits, starting with sequin covered bangles; they catch the disco lights perfectly and make you sparkle. Some dresses and tops have very subtle patterns created by sequins and this can add glamour to your style. I think that with sequins it’s all about either making a statement even from one chunky, sequin covered bangle or a sequin dress. Some celebrities have sported sequin hot pants which make a big statement when worn with a plain top. You can also get sequin boob tubes to go under a transparent top; this is subtle but striking look.
With sequins you can get creative, so get your sewing kit out and personalise your outfits. If a top needs a bit more ‘oomph’ and sparkle, why not sew a row of sequins around the collar. If you don’t want to actually wear the sequins, why not get some sequin covered heels or a sequin covered clutch? These can make just as much of a statement as a sequin dress. No more scratches on the dance floor!
