Sequins and stars

Every girl loves to add a little sparkle to her life and by that we mean to her wardrobe!  This season has certainly given us a pass to do just that and sparkle we will!

Sequins and stars are both killer trends this season and we are now even seeing them side-by-side!  Whether you opt for a head to toe print style or a subtle addition, both of these trends will certainly allow for a carefree party style.

Metallic sequins are a must this year and appear to be the new grunge-vintage take on the original sequin style.  These sequins are worn with flats and carefree tees for a laid back look that still screams party but in a different way.

Dolce & Gabbana are certainly one fashion house to look to when it comes to this season’s trends of stars and sequins.  They have released the metallic sequin with star combo and such a style comes in the shape of a long sleeved maxi that is perfect for the winter season and looks great teamed with killer chunky heels and opaque tights.

Wear with curls and statement watches as well as a few in your face rings for the ultimate style queen look!

Other pieces to invest in include the likes of a star embellished jumper, a pair of metallic skinnies in super shiny red, a cute pair of embellished sequin shorts, a metallic skirt with zip additions, a statement full length sequin maxi, a tie up star sheer top and of course, a pair of killer lace-up metallic heels!

All of these pieces are must-have wardrobe investments for this season and will look very in fashion throughout the whole of the winter months.

Bargain or blow out?

Some fashions are just too ridiculously priced for many fashionistas to even consider!  However trends that generally take to the runway tend to be re-released in a variety of similar styles on the high street!  So if you have found something on the runway that you want in your wardrobe now, check out the high street for a runway copy!  The copies are generally pretty good and allow you to keep your bank manager happy at the same time!

This season is all about a little serious Balmainia.  The outfit in question was seen at the recent runway shows and revealed a very cutesy skirt in deed!

Balmain is certainly high up in the fashion charts and everything they release seems to be snapped up in an instance!  This season they revealed a very daring mini that was created using an array of sequins.

This particular mini was dressed down rather than up and was seen worn with a cutesy grey slouchy tee and white boots.  This is a great item for this season as it ticks all the right boxes for smart casual!  Think statement sequins toned down with comfy casuals and you are good to go!

We went out to the high street to source a similar style that won’t break your bank balance!  New Look offer a cool alternative that comes in the shape of a high waisted puffball style skirt in a silver patterned sequin enthused fabric.  If this doesn’t get a few heads turning, we don’t know what will!

Next up is Zara, there take on the sparkle skirt is also a great one and such a style comes in the form of a sheer edged statement mini glittering with an array of tiny coloured sequins.  This didn’t look to OTT as the sequins were kept at a subtle shade.

Gestuz is another brand to watch out for; their sequin mini offered another head turner and came in the shape of a body con black and silver number.

Finally we have All Saints who house a grunge mini enthused with bronze, gold and black sequins.

Those that attend the events are as equally stylish as those that model the clothes. They know that they are in the media’s eye and therefore have to look their best! Who knows what the magazines and journalists will say about them if not!

This season was no different from others and saw an array of young fashionistas take up their places centre stage. Some of which included Dianna Vickers, Dionne Bromfield and model star Poppy!

The cape

There are various fashions that feature in films and many fashionista’s will try to create a certain look that they have seen in a renowned movie.  Maybe it was something their idol wore or something created by a top designer name.

Fashion is all about expressing ourselves, this can be done through colour, style, attitude, eccentricity, and simply the way we wear our clothes.

The cape is one such item that is often associated with films and such an item shows us how film and fashion really come into play!

Thanks to the recent vampire obsession we all seem to be entertaining, the cape is high on our need-to-invest-in list this season!

The cape is most certainly the coolest cover-up for the winter months and comes in an assortment of styles, colours, and fabrics.

Think solder style and opt for the military look, checked for a more English appeal, fur lined for a winter must-have, and side buttoned for a more elegant feel!

New accessory designers!

Accessories are a great addition to any outfit and can really make or break a style.  A simple outfit can be brought to life with the addition of a statement cuff, super embellished necklace or uber chunky bracelet and studs, however an over the top outfit can be turned into overkill with the addition of an equally embellished piece.

Whether you choose simple silver, warm hued gold or costume jewellery, accessories are a must in every girl’s wardrobe!

Bags, belts and shoes are as equally as pleasing and just as important as jewellery and really work to add the finishing touches to an outfit!

There are an assortment of accessory designers on the cards this season and all should be taken note of!  New York fashion Week showcased 18 must-see accessory stylistas!  In the 18 included jewelers, milliners, footwear, handbag and small leather good designers.  All showcased their pieces in a boutique like space.  We guarantee that any budding fashionista will want one, if not all of the designer items in their new season wardrobes as all will add an instant hit of pisazz to any outfit!

Choose wisely and invest in pieces that can be worn with more than one item and use them to take a daytime outfit to a night time outfit!

Fashionable careers

Some people are lucky enough to already have a career in fashion, this surely should give those that aspire to don a similar role inspiration and hope to do the same thing.

Jobs in fashion come in all forms and house the likes of fashion editors, stylists, clothes connoisseurs, fashion critics, costume entrepreneurs, editors and make-up artists.

The above are only a few of the careers you can think about looking into if you wish to be the fashion minded career man or woman.

You don’t however have to be extremely creativ and able to draw or design to become involved in fashion and there are an endless list of other options that still allow you to work in the fashion thinking field, take journalism for example.

Writing about fashion is completely different to creating an outfit and though both require background knowledge, each requires a different sort of background thinking and experience.

Try and get some work experience at. Local magazine or alternatively do a little freelance work, both of these things will allow you to practice the skill of fashion writing, allow you to learn the ropes of what goes on in the industry and also allow you to get your foot on the fashion ladder.

And the summer style gongs go to…

This summer has certainly seen an array of trends, especially from the A-list!  But which styles get the gongs this year?  First up cut-off denim is a must and every fashionista should have at least one pair of trusty denim cut-offs in their wardrobes.  Think faded denim, lace embellishments and button detailing if you really wish to work this style to the max!

Team those denim cutoffs with a playful camisole, a long length delicate chain necklace, some hot shades and maybe even a trilby.  However keep the look  classy and don’t make the denim short enough to reveal a cheek or two!

A floral print tea dress is also another must-do style for the warmer months, however when winter does strike, simply add a cute cardigan and a pair of opaque tights to the mix!  For a summer wedding team the cutesy dress with a pair of prom-esqu heels and for a more daytime affair, look to a wedged espadrille for a more low-key and beachy look.

The tea-dress is certainly proving to be a big hit of our time and has once again emerged as a key trend for summer.  You will most certainly see this look at an array of festivals, functions and openings on many an occasion.

Choose a few different styles in statement prints and also block colours in order to update your current wardrobe for summer!  The best bit, such a dress will roll up easily into a weekend bag with out creasing, top points from us!

Do the new crop

Do the new crop

The all-new red carpet trend appears to have forgotten the statement floor length ball gowns and gone for something a little more retro and a lot shorter!

The new red carpet trend comes in the shape of the crop top and is proving to no longer be the gym bunnies’ go-to option for work out wear.

The bare midriff has gone formal and is now very much a statement piece that should be in every girl’s wardrobe!  Especially when it is both perfect for an evening on the tiles and can also double up as day wear, especially when teamed with a cute retro pair of trousers or skinnies.

The A-list seem to be fans of this statement trend and have recently been seen sporting an array of crop-top ensembles for 2011!

The singer Kelly Roland showed us demure and went for a cute lemon crop top, which she teamed with a knee length black skirt and killer skyscrapers!  Jennifer Lopez tried out this season’s crop-top style with a cute pair of shorts, a statement short tartan jacket and round toe platforms.  Rhianna followed suit and dressed up a prim and proper puff baby blue skirt with a metallic long sleeved cardigan.

Both Anne Hathaway and Georgia May Jagger kept the look simple and low-key and teamed tight jeans and high waisted palazzo pants with crop-tees and of course, killer platforms.

The actress Anne worked a really retro look and teamed spots with stripes!

This style is a must-have look that is perfect for an assortment of events, simply lose the bling jewellery and heels for a daytime look and over do them for an evening event!

Now girls, all we need to do before investing in this top trend is to get working on those crunches at the gym!  Personal trainers at the ready!!

Fashion Tips for Women with an Athletic Figure

Women who have an athletic figure do not necessarily have to stick to wearing athletic or boyish outfits. As a matter of fact, by wearing the right types of clothes and accessories, you can easily enhance your figure and showcase your amazing sense of style. Here are some fashion tips for women who have an athletic figure.

1. To flatter an athletic figure, it would be good to wear tops which have an empire waist and are haltered. These types of tops would accentuate a small chest through adding the illusion of curves to a straight figure.

2. You can also choose to wear tops that have intricate details and prints. These tops bring attention to the upper body, creating a distraction to the lack of body shape which most women who have athletic figures have.

3. For bottoms, go with skirts, pants and jeans that are slightly flared and fitted. These can add curves to the body, while showcasing your thin frame.

4. Tight clothes would also be a good option since they can show off your slender shape, which is something that most of the other women try too hard to achieve. Since you already have it, without the need for going on diets or exercise programs, you might as well flaunt it with snug clothes.

5. Accessorizing is also recommended for women who have athletic figures since they can draw attention away from the straight shape of your body. Some good options would scarves and necklaces which can distract the eye from your small chest.
